Bringing sexy back? Calvin Harris is bringing disco back and he’s giving the Gio Goi t shirt a good boy makeover with nice shoes and being ready for the weekend.
As far as we know, Mr Harris has never been arrested for drug possession, has never thrown a pint glass at someone’s car, and has never been kicked off a plane for being totally inebriated. Come on, his name’s not Pete Doherty! So doesn’t that mean that he’s not eligible to become an ambassador for the famous bad-boy Gio Goi t shirt? That’s not what we think…
The Babyshambles front man has shaped and pioneered the brand, along with other rock legends including Blur, Oasis and our Yorkshire bad boys the Arctic Monkeys. Let’s face it – the notorious Gio Goi t shirt wasn’t made for a bunch of civilised old farts hosting tea parties. It’s about street culture and pure rock ‘n’ roll antics. So what if you’ve smashed a few guitars in your time? We love expression.
So what happens when you want to express your love of disco?
Apparently, this dude reckons he created disco. But surely James Brown invented it with “Love Machine” in 1970? But we do love Calvin Harris and we’re always ready for the weekend when we hear his music – even if it’s a dull Monday morning and we’ve run out of coffee. His interpretation of the Gio Goi t shirt definitely doesn’t involve police arrests and court appearances. Looks like the notoriously bad Gio Goi t shirt could be getting a much cleaner makeover.
Either way, the Gio Goi t shirt symbolises the love of modern culture and the love of music. Does it matter whether the wearer loves doing bad things in hotel rooms or eating his mum’s home cooking? And besides, we all know that Calvin Harris has a bad side. Bring disco back with your very own Gio Goi t shirt. Posted by Roger Martin for Stand Out.
