Summer Shorts Sizzler – The Essential Guide to Wearing Shorts
How to Wear Shorts for Men
The temptation to start wearing shorts is growing day by day. Spring is now in full swing and summer is knocking on the door, so surely it’s about time you tucked your longer trousers away for the season, right?
However tempting shorts may be, it is important to remember that there are a few fashion rules when it comes to wearing cut downs. Diving in without thought could lead to you looking a little red faced this summer… and not because of the sun!
There is a vast array of styles and trends and there is a pair to suit every occasion. The first rule is to remember that whilst spring is well truly here, summer has not quite arrived yet so hold fire. Try to resist temptation where possible because the British weather is still unpredictable and you may get caught short (no pun intended).
Opt for jeans for next few weeks and give yourself time to fully prepare your summer wardrobe.
Shorts for Men – The Correct Fit
Over the years we have seen many different styles and fits and the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo have made short shorts extremely fashionable. Whilst he can pull them off on the beaches of the Algarve, these don’t have quite the same effect when wandering around Southend on a July morning.
The most stylish fit and easiest to pull off would be a pair that are cut just above the knee and at the shortest mid-thigh length. This fit suits all body shapes and will match with almost every outfit. You should look for a slightly tapered fit to give your shorts some shape.
Men’s Short Styles
There are a various styles to choose from and each will allow you to have a different look. Take a look at some of our favourite styles below.
Chino Shorts
Chino shorts are like the godfather of men’s shorts. They are the most versatile and suit every occasion from mid-summer BBQ’s to casual dinners (and even nights out) they even meet stricter door policies. #Winner
Chinos can be used as either smart or casual attire. Our favourite look would be to team chinos with a light short sleeved shirt and some boat shoes.

Men’s Denim Shorts
Denims are slightly less breathable than the chino, however, what they lack in breathability they certainly make up for in durability. These will be the most hard-wearing pair that you own and will be able to withstand anything you throw at them… but try not to throw too much at them because they might start to look a little dirty.
Denim shorts are a tad more casual than chino shorts and are worn well with a graphic t shirt or a lighter jumper (should it start to get chilly).

Men’s Sports Shorts
The arrival and popularity of sportswear has led to sports shorts being hot on trend. They can look great when paired correctly and by this we would suggest opting for a neutral colour and team with a plain crew neck t-shirt and sweatshirt should it be needed.

Overall there are many varieties to wear this summer however; these three choices are most versatile and should definitely see you through. There are also many swimwear pieces to choose from, however, these should only be worn for days around the pool or beach.
Remember to look for the correct fit and this will allow you to create a versatile look that can be used for both day and evening wear.
