There are few things worse than a bad hairstyle. OK, it’s not your fault that you were born with thick, curly or unruly hair but there are ways of dealing with this that will neither break the bank nor leave you looking like a member of the hair bear bunch. Avoid these five hairstyles mistakes and stay on the right side of the trend.
DON’T – Overgrow your barnet
Every man looks his best when he is fresh out of the barbers. A slick trim and a trendy cut always seem to do the trick with the ladies and will leave you feeling confident and damn right sexy on a night out. There’s nothing worse than a sweaty neck and greasy hands from pushing your hair out of your face all day. Overgrown hair is a definite no, no.
DON’T – Pretend you still have hair when you don’t
Who hasn’t looked at the remaining wispy candy floss on a friend’s head and thought: “Just shave it off, mate”? If it’s obviously going, hanging on to what you’ve got (or worse, attempting a comb-over) screams insecurity. A close crop suggests the problem has been dealt with decisively.
DON’T – Use the wrong type of hair product
When it’s hot, the molecules which make up the nutrients and essential oils in soft styling products such as waxes, gels, cremes and pomades move further away from each other, dissipating and resulting in less hold than when it’s cool. For those of you who don’t understand what I’m saying here it leaves the product melting all over your head. Instead, try opting for dry finish products such as texture dusts, salt sprays, clays and hairspray, these should do the trick and counteract the sweat and grease your head and hands naturally create.
DON’T – Experiment with hair dye
Whatever your reason for colouring your hair, there’s a correct way to do it. And that’s not at home, alone. Colouring is something that is hard to achieve yourself, especially first time around so before you think about testing the waters, also think about whether you fancy looking like a bleach blonde Eminem in his Slim Shady video… we thought not.
DON’T – Make it snow
Washing your hair is all well and good, but you’re still putting a foot wrong if you don’t take proper care of your scalp. The embarrassment of your friend asking you if it’s safe to go outside due to the snow blizzard that’s clearly hit your jet black blazer will be extremely hard to live down. Try using an anti-dandruff shampoo such as Head and Shoulders to avoid any embarrassing crumbles.
