Thick soles, bold silhouettes, clashing colourways and retro-styles are just some of the themes amongst men’s trainers we’ve seen rise to popularity this year, and it’s safe to say – 2019 has been a big year for trainers, both literally and figuratively – thanks to the ‘chunky platform’ trend. With stacks of brand new drops landing almost weekly and selling out within minutes, we’ve rounded up the best, stylish men’s trainer drops of 2019 that you can still get your hands on today here at Standout.co.uk, along with a glance at some of the most heavily anticipated footwear releases set to drop later this year.
New Balance 997’s (£79.95)
The newest iteration of the timeless New Balance 997’s was an eagerly awaited drop of 2019. Paying homage to the original, classic 997 New Balance style, the new 997 trainers maintain the iconic collar strap and original design features, but are now available in classic, colour-blocking styles in both black and white leather. Try pairing these sophisticated faux leather upper trainers with a pair of distressed skinny mid-wash jeans, such as the ripped Sik Silk jeans (£49.95) for a cool, contemporary look.
Harry’s of London Nimble Suede Trainers (£295.00)
Arguably one of the most successful British footwear brands to make a dent in men’s footwear this year, Harry’s of London dropped the Nimble Suede trainers earlier this year. Based on their iconic Mr Jones trainers, the suede, nimble trainers feature a Technogel 3D insole, with ultra-lightweight soles for complete comfort. We favour the mahogany colourway the most out of the latest range, as these trainers can easily be paired with a classic pair of denim Levi 511 Jeans, or smartened up for an evening look with a dress trouser and smart shirt, such as our classic Tommy Hilfiger slim shirt in white.
Diadora Game Low Leather Trainers (£74.95)
Part of Diadora’s retro revival, the Game Low Leather trainers combine street style and sportswear to bring an authentic retro-style trainer. Available at Standout.co.uk in both peach and yellow colourways, these slick, innovative shoes prove to be hugely popular amongst our customers. Keep things retro by pairing the Diadora Game Low shoes with a light jean and a vibrant, vintage-style shirt with a bold pattern, such as the Religion arrow pocket shirt.
Axel Arigato Clean 180’s (£181)
Sticking true to its minimalistic Scandinavian roots, Axel Arigato is known for its clean, minimal look consisting of quality materials and premium craftsmanship. The hugely anticipated 2019 drop of the Clean 180’s feature a classic white round-toe sneaker, but offer a couple of interesting stylistic details too. The mustard heel tab adds a touch of colour to the classic trainer, along with the black sole and tongue to give the shoe a cooler edge over other contemporary trainer styles.
Nike Air Max 90 Viotech 2.0 Trainers (£119)
Paying homage to the Japan-exclusive ‘Viotech’ range that made its original Nike debut in the early 2000s, Viotech is back with a lucid, vibrant style of shoe. Taking colour blocking to the next level with bright blues, greens, pinks, yellows and white panels in premium suede fabrics, if you’re looking for a unique shoe to upgrade your footwear collection – these are the trainers to consider.
Diadora Whizz Run Leather Trainers (£89.95)
If you’re looking for a shoe that’s bound to turn heads, the latest 2019 drop from Diadora takes inspiration from the ‘chunky platform’ trainer craze, with the Diadora Whizz Run Leather Trainers. Bold and bright, these striking trainers are definitely not for everyone, but a guaranteed hit for those who prefer a different choice of shoe. The Whizz chunky silhouette features a mixed media range of leather fabrics and is available in an assortment of striking colourways, so if you prefer a pop of colour with your trainers, these are definitely a winning contender. If you want to jump on the chunky trainer trend in a more subtle way, the Whizz trainers are also available in a monochrome colourway.
Vans Palomar Suede Trainers (£56.95)
Create a laid back, weekend look and upgrade your trainer collection with one of Vans most popular 2019 drops, the Palomar trainers. These trainers are a cool alternative to the classic black vans and offer something a little extra to the extremely popular skate shoes. Built with an assortment of textures, the Palomar Suede Canvas shoes replace the classic black suede material, with a standout grey, textured fabric – adding a sophisticated edge to a hugely successful trainer style. Along with a padded tongue with embroidered Vans branding and a small loop featuring the Logo alongside the classic signature Vans stripe, the Palomar suede style of vans offer guys a slicker alternative to the simplistic pair of Vans. Pair these trainers with black skinny jeans and a smart long-sleeve shirt, such as the Lacoste Checked Shirt, in green and grey to take this look from laidback, to evening-wear ready. Available in grey/white, or black/white colourways.
Upcoming trainer drops of 2019
Pharell x Adidas Hu NMD Trainers (£180)
Expected to drop at the end of September, Adidas have collaborated once more with Pharrell to create a brand new addition to the hotly anticipated ‘Gum’ collection. With both trainers emblazoned with embroidered “Breathe” and “Thoughts” across the front of the shoe, these trainers remind us to take care of ourselves, as well as allowing us to stay stylish. These trainers are crafted from the model of a sock, to provide the perfect slip on and slip off experience.
Sacai x Nike LDV
Set to release at the end of September, the Sacai X Nike trainers are a unique collaboration between Japanese label Sacai and Nike. These eye-catching trainers stand out from the crowd to create a unique layering sole effect, that is complemented perfectly with bright hits of orange, pink and teal shades. The iconic swoosh is double-layered for a 3D effect and the cross-branding on the tongue of the shoe featuring both Sacai and Nike logos collide both Japanese and American culture perfectly. If you favour a more bold style of trainer, be sure to keep an eye out for this upcoming drop.
